The Commonwealth Medical College

The Commonwealth Medical College Campus
The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) is one of the nation's newest medical colleges located in northeast and north central Pennsylvania that offers a community-based model of medical education with three regional campuses - North (Scranton), South (Wilkes-Barre), and West (Williamsport). The College was awarded degree granting authority by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2008, received preliminary LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) accreditation in 2008; provisional accreditation in 2012, and accepted its first class of medical and master's students in 2009. TCMC offers a Medical Degree (MD) program and a Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) degree.
TCMC is a regional, community-based, medical school committed to creating patient-centered physicians. The MD Program is a four year curriculum that features team and case-based learning, interprofessional education, early exposure to clinical care settings, medical simulation, standardized patients, and community health and research projects. TCMC is among the first United States medical schools to adopt the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) model as the standard clinical experience for the entire medical school class in the third year.
The College attracts students from within its 16-county region as well as across Pennsylvania and the nation who are interested in studying evidence- and community-based medicine and who have a strong desire to serve their community. The students have early clinical experiences and are engaged with clinical mentors right from the start of their education.
TCMC uses a distributive model of education with three regional campuses. Each campus offers exposure to urban and rural settings to expose students to abundant, diverse clinical experiences. Medical students receive a regional campus assignment following matriculation and are paired with a community physician who serves as a continuity mentor throughout their education.
